Make detangling easier with the right tools, products, and routine.

Hello, My Beautiful People! Today, let’s talk about something we do to our hair all the time but may not give much thought to how we handle it. From the way you detangle your strands to how often you manipulate, moisturize, or leave a style in, these everyday habits can have a bigger impact on your hair’s health than you may realize.

Let’s take a closer look at 5 detangling tips and 5 common hair-care mistakes that can help you protect your strands, minimize unnecessary breakage, and be more intentional with your routine.

5 DETANGLING TIPS Give Your Hair a Gentler Comb-Out Never detangle dry hair!

Dry hair is more prone to friction, snagging, and breakage, especially when you’re working through tangles. A little moisture helps soften the strands and gives the hair more slip, making it easier to work through knots with less pulling and tension. Add moisture before you detangle

Mist your hair with water, a leave-in mist, or a lightweight cream. Even aloe vera can provide helpful slip. Adding moisture helps soften the strands, reduce friction, and make tangles easier to release, so you can detangle with less pulling and minimize unnecessary breakage. Don’t fight the tangles!

Our Leave It In – Leave-In Hair Mist is gluten and sulfate-free. It adds moisture to help

soften the hair and make detangling easier. A great choice for all hair types, including natural, relaxed, and dry hair.   The rich formula contains black castor oil, which deeply moisturizes and nourishes hair, helping to alleviate dryness and prevent breakage. The fine mist makes it easy to apply, making it a perfect comb-out spray for locs, braids, and twists. It's also suitable for children and men, making it a versatile and essential product for any hair care routine.  Choose the Right Detangling Tools: Start at the Ends for Less Tension Use a shower, wide-tooth comb or detangling brush with wide bristles and protective balls on the tips. The right detangling tool reduces pulling, snagging, and unnecessary tension on your hair, which can minimize breakage and make detangling gentler on your strands. Start from the ends and gently work your way up to the roots (from your ends up to your scalp)

Starting at the ends lets you work through tangles gently without pulling on the roots. It helps prevent unnecessary tension, breakage, and pain while making your way up toward the scalp.

Do small sections to avoid breaking your hair.

Working in small sections gives you more control and allows you to gently work through each tangle without excessive pulling. This helps reduce tension and minimizes the risk of breakage. 5 COMMON MISTAKES What does your wants you to STOP doing? OVERMANIPULATING THE HAIR. Styling/combing/ rearranging too often can lead to breakage, thinning, and permanent damage (even alopecia areata). Less manipulation means less tension and friction, helping reduce breakage and protect your hair’s strength and fullness. NOT ENOUGH MOISTURE/OIL ON HAIR

Using too little of these products will lead to dryness and eventually breakage or slow down growth. Give your hair, skin, and scalp the nourishment they need. Add Everyday People Moisturizing Essential Oil Blend to your hair care routine.  This lightweight blend of quality base and essential oils can be used several times a week to support healthier, more moisturized hair.

Perfect for dry, damaged hair or maintaining your natural moisture.

INFREQUENT MOISTURE/OIL ON HAIR. A Moisture Routine for Your Hair’s Needs Recommendation: 1-2 times per week, depending on factors like hair color and scalp conditions like dandruff. Consistent moisture helps prevent dryness, maintain softness, and reduce breakage. For lightweight shine, frizz control, and heat protection, try Emanate Flare Shine Spray 8S. This lightweight finishing mist adds a radiant shine while helping protect hair from heat styling, moisture loss, flyaways, and frizz. Formulated with 100% argan oil and macadamia oil, it leaves hair looking smooth, polished, and healthy. LEAVING STYLES IN TOO LONG.  If it is "protective," you must protect the hair to get it to grow and stay healthy. Styles should only be left in for 6-8 weeks without manipulation for scalp health and to avoid matting/locing of hair. NOT TREATING/TRIMMING HAIR. Don’t wait until your hair is damaged to give it attention. Consistent maintenance helps prevent small issues from becoming bigger problems. Protein treatment + trim every 3–4 months: Protein treatments help strengthen the hair and improve its resilience, while regular trims remove split or damaged ends before the damage travels further up the hair shaft.

Deep conditioning or amino acid mask monthly: Helps restore moisture, improve softness and manageability, and support the hair’s strength and elasticity.

Essential oil treatment biweekly: Can help address specific hair and scalp concerns while supporting a healthier scalp environment. The frequency may be adjusted based on individual needs and scalp condition.

Your hair-care routine does not have to be complicated to be effective. The key is being gentle, consistent, and mindful of what your hair and scalp need at each stage of your journey. As you put these tips into practice, focus on progress rather than perfection. Small adjustments, using the right tools, handling tangles patiently, maintaining moisture, and avoiding unnecessary tension can support healthier-looking, more manageable natural hair over time.
